Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim
ALL KNOWLEDGE FROM ĀDAM (ALAYHI S-SALĀM)
Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm: “وَعَلَّمَ آدَمَ الْأَسْمَاءَ كُلَّهَا ثُمَّ عَرَضَهُمْ عَلَى الْمَلَائِكَةِ”, “Wa-‘allama ādama l-asmā’a kullahā thumma ‘araḍahum ‘alá l-malāikati”, “And He taught Adam the names – all of them. Then He showed them to the angels.”(Qur’an 02:31). Ṣadaqa Llāhu l-‘Aẓīm.
Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla taught everything to Ādam ʿalayhi s-salām. The knowledge of human beings, the sons of Ādam ʿalayhi s-salām until now comes from Ādam ʿalayhi s-salām. Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla taught him everything. Through him, all kinds of knowledge: spiritual knowledge, apparent knowledge and esoteric knowledge. Whatever comes to your mind from knowledge was taught by Ādam ʿalayhi s-salām, our father, the first Prophet, the first human Ādam ʿalayhi s-salām. From mathematics, the names of the stars and all kinds of knowledge there is now.
They think that human beings learned these by chance, that they learned them by themselves. There is no such thing at all. Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla gave everything an appointed time. The main knowledge was given there from Ādam ʿalayhi s-salām to people. And as time goes by, another door of knowledge opens. People learn other things. And after some time, another knowledge comes. Until we reach our time, as we see. This knowledge has no end in the presence of Allāh ﷻ. There is no end to knowledge.
Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla gave this knowledge for us. For example, human beings burn in fire and drown in water. There are other creatures; Jinns were created from fire. Nothing happens to them. Those that live in seas are different, and those that live in the air are different. The creatures of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla don’t finish. Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla is always creating. There is no such thing as, “He ﷻ is just creating us and not creating other things.” But people [ask], “Are there any creatures in space?” Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla has everything of course. There is, and when everything is given permission, it may appear. When there is no permission, there is a border and a limit. They cannot pass from one place to another.
That’s why here, as we said, knowledge is with Allāh ﷻ. The source of knowledge is Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla. Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla gives people something little of it. And they think they are something important after that. The beneficial knowledge is the knowledge that lets us know Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla. Knowledge is that which tells us about the Essence of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla, His ﷻ Power and His ﷻ Magnificence. This is the knowledge. Others don’t know what they’re doing. If they do something, they come out and say, “It is mine.” They make judgments telling people, “Do this, do that.” This is not knowledge. This is something that confuses people.
Therefore, knowledge came from the Prophets. All kinds of knowledge. Whatever comes to your mind: from weaving, agriculture, farming, being a doctor. Everything came from the Prophets. From the first Prophet Ādam ʿalayhi s-salām, then Sheeth, then ‘Idrīs ʿalayhi s-salām etc. They taught people this knowledge.
As we said, it is limited. It is something that opens slowly. Because now is the end of times, it opened at once. In the past, a person learns a few things in a thousand years. Nowadays knowledge changes in a year. And that is the wisdom of Allāh ﷻ because it is the end of times. The end of the world is coming. They must also come out. They are reserved especially for this time. May Allāh ﷻ in shā’a Llāh not divert us. May He ﷻ not give us the knowledge that misleads us. May He ﷻ grant us the true knowledge to all of us in shā’a Llāh. Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq. Al-Fatiha.
