KEEP TWO THINGS IN MIND
عَجِّلُوا بِالصَّلاةِ قَبْلَ الْفَوْتِ، وَعَجِّلُوا بِالتَّوْبَةِ قَبْلَ الْمَوْتِ
“Hurry up to perform prayer before the time passes, and hurry up in repentance before death comes.” [Hadith]. Rush for praying, and repent before dying. Do not miss the prayers. Rush to pray and don’t miss its time, because time does not stop. Time is passing. Last year is quickly over. A year before it is over. A decade before that is over too. Two decades before that are over. It goes by so quickly, you don’t realize it. It seems like nothing is happening.
This year, not the Hijri year but the year according to solar calendar – Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla says He ﷻ created the sun and moon for calculation of the days and months. There are two types. One is the Hijri. We do our religious affairs and Islamic orders according to it. And the other is the solar year. People arrange their lives and tasks according to it. Holidays and this and that. Allah ﷻ gave it as a benefit. There is no problem in using it.
However, we must know this thing. He ﷻ is showing it as a lesson. The year is over, and we see that with the end of the year people start celebrating it with drinking and excitement. They drink and so. And then this year is over, and the new year comes. So what if it is the new year? A year is over from your lifetime, you are closer to death. The death is near. Did you prepare yourself for it? No. “I prepared myself for the New Year. I prepared drinks and food”. And then they show it as if that is a skill. It is not a skill.
People of old times say hurry up in repentance so that Allah ﷻ forgives your misbehavior. The Door of Repentance is open. There is still a chance and opportunity for it before you die, before you take your last breath in this world. Otherwise, it is over after you die. You will have missed it then and will carry your punishment forever.
It is the same with praying. People who miss the time of the prayer cannot attain the virtue of that prayer with all their prayers throughout their lives. Praying on time is the most virtuous. Mankind takes worship lightly. Of course, Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla says there is forgiveness, but there is no replacement of that virtue. You will not get its virtue. It is alright when you make it up as Qada’ if you miss it; Allah ﷻ will accept it. But you will have missed its virtue which is enormous.
People must keep these two things in mind throughout their lives. Days are passing very quickly. They are passing in an instant. And your life is passing too. Instead of having fun in the end of the year, people should repent and ask for forgiveness so that Allah ﷻ forgives us for our sins and misbehavior. But they are doing the worse. What shall we say? May Allah ﷻ give mind and understanding, because clever people don’t do this. Stupid people do such things. All these egoistic arrogant people who say “We are this and that” and do such things don’t lack a little but a lot of mind. May Allah ﷻ protect us. May Allah ﷻ give guidance to people. May Allah ﷻ protect children from these bad situations insha’Allah.
