Immune Boosting Powerhouse
Did you know the Ancient Egyptians believed that eating lemons and drinking lemon juice was an effective protection against a variety of poisons, and that recent research has confirmed this belief?
There are many health benefits of lemons that have been known for centuries. The two biggest are lemons’ strong antibacterial, antiviral, and immune-boosting powers and their use as a weight loss aid because lemon juice is a digestive aid and liver cleanser. Lemons contain many substances — notably citric acid, calcium, magnesium, vitamin C, bioflavonoids, pectin, and limonene — that promote immunity and fight infection.
Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is a powerful antioxidant that helps ward off disease, and lemons are loaded with it. Just one large lemon contains about 75 percent of your daily requirement. Research has shown that vitamin C can help shorten the duration of cold symptoms and that the best way to reap its benefits is by consuming it in your diet.
A rich source of vitamin C, lemon possess immense health benefits ranging from its antibacterial and antiviral properties to its immune boosting abilities. One of the most common ways to reap the health benefits of lemon is by juicing it. Lemon juice acts as a digestive and a detoxifying agent and helps in cleaning the liver leading to better digestive health.
Soothes Respiratory Disorders & Throat Infections
Lemon’s anti-inflammatory properties help in fighting respiratory tract infections, sore throat and inflammation of tonsils.
Lemon is an excellent fruit that fights problems related to throat infections, due to its well-known antibacterial properties.
When you have a cold, the healing power of lemons works both internally, by supplying urgently required vitamin C to your defense cells, and externally, through the application of its antiviral properties to the virus on the mucous membranes in the nose and throat.
At the first indication of a cold — a runny nose or sore throat — try to give your body as much immune-boosting vitamin C as you can so that the virus is eliminated before it gets a chance to take hold. Drink the freshly squeezed juice of one lemon in a glass of lukewarm water every two hours.
Gargle with the freshly squeezed juice of one lemon
If you have a sore throat, add the juice of one lemon and one teaspoon (5ml) of sea salt to one cup (250ml) lukewarm water. Gargle three times a day for one minute to diminish the burning sensation. If it’s a case of tonsillitis, gargle every two hours for at least 30 seconds with the freshly squeezed juice of one lemon. Tilt the head back to allow the antibacterial and antiviral properties of the juice to flow into the back of the throat. You can swallow the juice when you have finished gargling thereby benefiting from an immune-boosting vitamin C shot.
Chills and fevers may be due to a variety of causes, but the lemon is always a helpful remedy. Here is a method that can ease symptoms: add the juice of 1 lemon to a cup of hot water with honey and drink at once, then every 2 hours until the fever or chill subsides.
Drink lemon water everyday and you’ll reduce your body’s overall acidity. Lemon is one of the most alkaline foods around. Yes, lemon has citric acid but it does not create acidity in the body once metabolized.
Relieves respiratory problems
Warm lemon water helps get rid of chest infections and halt those pesky coughs. It’s thought to be helpful to people with asthma and allergies too.
If you drink lemon water on a regular basis, it will decrease the acidity in your body, which is where disease states occur.
It removes uric acid in your joints, which is one of the main causes of inflammation.
Lemon juice, especially, has several health benefits associated with it. Even more, as a refreshing drink, lemonade helps you stay calm and cool. Vitamin C is one of the first things depleted when you subject your mind and body to stress.

Drinking lemon juice with warm water every morning helps in maintaining the pH balance of the body. Start your day with lemon water and have again at night.
Give your immune system a boost by drinking a cup of lukewarm water with some lemon juice. Squeeze half of a lemon juice into a cup. Discard any seeds that may fall in. Add warm water, stir, and drink.

Lemon infused water
Lemon-infused water is easy to make, turning out like a light, refreshing lemonade.
Wash your lemons, scrub the entire surface area with a produce brush to remove any dirt, bacteria or pesticide residue. Soak lemons in hot water with some baking soda & vinegar solution to properly remove any waxy residue.
Slice one lemon per quart of water thinly with a sharp, nonserrated kitchen knife. Keep the slices about 1/2-inch thick or less. Knock out the seeds with the tip of your knife and discard them.
Fill a pitcher or large mason jar with the water you’re infusing. Drop the lemon slices into the water.
Add complementary ingredients, if desired. Put in a few leaves or sprigs of a complementary fresh herb too for more depth of flavor; mint, lavender, basil and sage are suitable options. Remember to first wash anything you use.
Give everything a light stir and close the pitcher or mason jar. Put the water into the refrigerator for at least 2 to 4 hours. The longer it sits, the more potent the infused flavor becomes.
Stir the ingredients in the water gently at the end of steeping, and then remove them all with a strainer. The lemon-infused water is ready to serve.
The infused water will keep refrigerated for up to 2 days.
Relieves a sore throat
