Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim Al-Haqqani An-Naqshibandi, Sohbat of 8th of July, 1988.

…ta’wila al-wasila, an explanation of wasila – mediary. He said this, because he could not comprehend the wisdom of this holy verse, saying, We’ll look after you. A word then came from Allah Almighty: Nobody can reach to this station without a mediary Whoever wishes to regard Us, who wishes to behold Our beauty, he should adopt a mediary to achieve this station. We have made so-and-so to be the qutub as a means to this goal. Meaning, he holds the key, he is the wasila / mediary. We have designated him to help you reach to Us, to bring you to the station where you can behold Us. If you do not find him, you will wait there for all eternity, for that station will not open to you without a mediary.

Yes, the Prophet Musa fell down and rose again. Why did the Prophet Musa go in search of al-Khidr, ‘alayhi s-salam? Was it only for the sake of adornment – To increase his knowledge? What was his intention in seeking to increase his knowledge? He, who was master of a shari’a / law, a prophet of great rank and standing, what could he have hoped to gain from the Prophet Khidr? What was his real purpose in seeking him out? Would he have sought the Prophet Khidr without purpose? The intention of seeking such a person who has been granted ‘ilmu laduni, knowledge directly imparted by Allah, that is actually the truth that was planted in his heart at the time when Allah Almighty spoke to him and said: you will not be able to behold Me, and when he fell down and rose up again. You can never look at Us directly. Without there being a mediary and a means / wasila you cannot ever reach that station. Therefore the Prophet Musa set out so urgently to find the one being in that age who had been granted knowledge from that source, who was prepared to be the guide, the means to this station.

The knowledge of ‘ilmu laduni which he possessed did not accord with the outward shari’a that the Prophet Musa had been given. It agreed with its inner truth, but not with its outward aspect. For there is truth in the shari’a, and of course the ‘ilmu laduni cannot be separated from the truth of the shari’a. So when al-Khidr destroyed the boat, and Musa chided him for that, it was the outward shari’a of Musa that voiced objection. As for the Truth, the inner aspect of the shari’a, when the Prophet al-Khidr, explained why he had done this, the truth of the shari’a approved and said Yes, you are right.

However, in our outward aspect we cannot accept this. But according to our inner truth your action agrees with us; so the outer aspect of the shari’a confirmed the actions of the Prophet al-Khidr, it is all right, it said. For that reason he made him undergo a threefold trial. And he saw that the Prophet Musa was not able to surpass the outward knowledge he had been given. The Prophet al-Khidr offered him three bridges. Three bridges he offered him, so that he might pass into the region of Truth. If you can’t go on this, take that one; if this won’t do, go on that one.

Cross on all three, if you like. This was enough for Musa, ‘alayhi s-salam. That is why the Prophet al-Khidr finally said there is no need for me to remain with you. You will not admit any more crossings than these, so cross over at those three crossings that you have made.

So he [Musa] was given permission. It was for this wasila that the Prophet Musa sought him out. Together with his slave boy, or his friend or his servant…

The Oceans of Unity

Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim

Sultan ul-Awliya Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim Al-Haqqani An-Naqshibandi (Qs), Sohbat of the 1st of November, 2013.

O beloved friends of Shah-i Mardan, please feel welcome. What does the Lord Almighty, the One and Only, speak? Our Lord speaks: wāhidūnī. He says: You must know of Me. You must know Me. wāhidūnī, you must worship Me alone. What does the Lord of Glory wish for in this world? wāhidūnī. O our Lord, You exist, You are One, You have Existence. We are Your weak servants, O Lord. You have created us, You are our Creator. And You have commanded: wāhidūnī – You must know about My Existence and My Unity.

There is no other Lord but You. There is no other Creator but You. It is You alone who exists, who is One, who possesses and bestows power and strength. You alone are My Lord and Master. The Lord Almighty says: wāhidūnī. Affirm My Unity. That is what Allah Almighty wishes.

We declare Your Unity, according to our means and condition. You have commanded: wāhidūnī. Declare My Unity! You have Existence, O Lord, You have Existence. O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan. open up, let your hearts open wide. Let there be gladness, let them be filled with joy. Let them be filled with faith. wāhidūnī. Affirm My Unity. It is You who are the One, I wish for you to say this. O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan, O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan. The highest rank a man can have is the rank of tawhīd, of Unity. Affirm My Unity, profess My Oneness. You are servants, and I give to you everything. Affirm My Unity, I am the One and Only, I am the sole Lord you have. Say: O Lord of Might and Glory, You have Existence. All Beauty resides in You. All Honour is found with You. You possess all the Beauty there can be, O our Lord.

O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan, you must know what it is that I know. wāhidūnī. Affirm My Unity. Declare what I know. Come to us, O Shah-i Mardan. How lovely to declare the Unity of Allah Almighty. wāhidūnī. You must declare My Unity. You must declare that My Existence is One. May your hearts open up, may your feelings be joyful. O our Lord, grant us faith, and submission to Your Divine Will/Islam and intimacy with You. Do not leave us to the filth of this world, O our Lord. You have sent to us Shah-i Mardan in order to save us from disgusting filth and vileness.

May our hearts open up wide. How, by what means? wāhidūnī. You alone have Existence, no one else but You. You alone, O My Lord, possess Unity and true Being. It is to You that our hearts should open and in You find contentment. wāhidūnī. You must be amidst My Being, My Uniqueness, My Joyfulness. O our Lord, O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan. Allāhu Dhū l-Jalāl addresses them: wāhidūnī. You must declare that I (Allah) alone exist. You do exist, O our Lord. The affirmation of Absolute Unity is for You, O my Lord. Do not leave us to be as rubbish. We do not want to become rubbish. We want to affirm Your Unity. Let us affirm Your Unity, O our Lord. Dress upon us some of the honour of that Unity, O our Lord.

wāhidūnī. Declare My Unity. What have you got to do? You must declare My Unity. O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan. Come to us, come to the affirmation of Unity. Declare His Unity, wāhidūnī. You should declare My Oneness. You are One, You alone exist, You are the Lord of the Worlds – that you must say. When you declare My Unity, I shall give you everything. I have created the worlds, I have created all of Creation. Not for Myself, for you I have created them. Therefore, wāhidūnī. You must announce My Unity, so that you might find joy, and experience Divine Unity. O Shah-i Mardan, show us; the command you received is: wāhidūnī. Say of Me: You are One, You are Unique, there is none other than You, O our Lord. You alone possess Absolute Being and Absolute Beauty.

O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan. May our hearts open up, may we be joyful. What do we need to do? What is the command? wāhidūnī. Affirm My Unity, none other exists beside Me alone. There is nothing that you will be wanting. O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan ask for the Lord of Might and Glory and know that He is One and that there is no other than He. wāhidūnī. Let our every breath declare Your Unity, Your Being and Your Unity. There is nothing that matches or resembles You, O our Lord. Say this, so I might be pleased and happy with you. When do I take pleasure in My servant? When am I pleased with My servant? You alone exist, there is no other. You are the Lord, You are the Lord of the Worlds.

O our Lord, we are ill. We are ailing, inwardly and out. You have sent to us Shah-i Mardan to cure us of our illness. O Shah-i Mardan, wāhidūnī. Declare My Divine Unity. O our Lord, we have no strength. We are in a state of weakness. From your words, O Shah-i Mardan, we imbibe Absolute Power and Grandeur. Let us fill up with love, with ardent love. Our Lord has commanded: Declare My Unity! Let us wish for this. O our Lord, lā ilāha illa Anta, subhānaka, O our Lord, You are One, You have no equal and nothing resembles You, our Lord. O beloved friends of Shah-i Mardan, hasten to affirm the Unity of the Lord Almighty Allah. That has been commanded. wāhidūnī. We are but servants and we are weak, but our Lord has His lions. Our Lord and Master, who is the One and Only has His lions. With the help of those lions let us shine forth, like the stars in the heavens. Let us shine, let us be joyful, let us be light-hearted and find our honour. For there is no honour above that honour.

Declare My Unity! Affirm My Absolute Divine Unity! And affirm My Absolute Divine Dominion! Declare My Divine Power and Grandeur, and say: Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. For My Unity is contained in these words. What shall we do, O Lord? Here there is Shah-i Mardan. Turn to Shah-i Mardan, let him teach you. O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan. How lovely! What lovely faces they have! What good manners they have! What beautiful qualities they possess! O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan, beloved friends of Shah-i Mardan, wāhidūnī, declare My Unity. You alone exist, O our Lord, there is no other.

O Lord of Glory! wāhidūnī. There is none other than You. Let us say: Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan. Hasten to declare My Unity. Say: There is no other but You. O Lord of Glory, grant us strength, Give us power and strength. Give us power so that we might love You, and respect You, for we are weak. O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan, we are weak servants. Send us one to deliver us from this weakness, who will plunge us into the Oceans of Unity, send to us Shah-i Mardan. I will send him, He says, if you wish for that. And then he will teach you what is meant by: wāhidūnī. Let him teach you about My Unity. Let him say: The Lord of Might and Glory, there is none other than He. It is He who is the Creator. It is He who is the Giver of Life. It is He who loves and He who makes love happen.

O our Lord, may our hearts fill and overflow with Your Love. May no more heaviness be upon us. Let us find refreshment. Let us gain strength through the power of Unity. O our Lord, O our Subhān, our Sultān. O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan, listen, listen well and take your share. Therein lies benefit for you. al-Fātiha.

O my Lord, You have bestowed on us, You have bestowed on us ardent love. Let us not grow weary, let us not become full up. Our Lord, no one can get enough of You. You are Subhān, You are Sultān. You have commanded: wāhidūnī, Declare My Existence and My Unity, affirm My Oneness, and I shall give to you. May Allah open things up for you. With what do hearts open up, what opens them up? With Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. Say: Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. May your hearts open wide, may you be joyful. We are Your weak servants who are in need of Your Forgiveness. If as much as a drop of Your gracious Bounty, of Your Grace comes to us, the whole universe is turned upside down. Let us be immersed in Your Unity. Let us be filled with Your Oceans of Oneness. With love and fervour, with Your Unity let us attain to You.

wāhidūnī. You are the One, the Only, there is no other but You alone. Let us be filled, satiated. He alone fills and satisfies, nothing else will satisfy man. wāhidūnī. When you declare My Unity you will be satisfied. If you do not, you will never find satisfaction. O our Lord, forgive us. O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan. mā shā’ Allāhu kān, wa mā lam yashā’ lam yakūn. May the Oceans part, may the Gates of Mercy open wide, so that we might plunge into them. O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan, ask for it, ask from the Oceans of Unity. O our Lord, we are so weak. From our state of weakness we seek Your Grace and Bounty. Your Bounty has no limits, it has no before and no after. Let us be beautiful. Do not be ugly, He says. Let us be beautiful, O beloved friends of Shah-i Mardan. Let us be lovely. Do not be hideous in the Presence of our Lord. Where does our beauty come from? wāhidūnī. Come and enter into the joyfulness of the Absolute Unity of My Being. al-Fatiha.

As-salamu ‘aleykum, O beloved friends who you are gathered here, may peace be upon you. May the peace of our Lord be upon us. Let us open up and be lovable, let us be lovely. al-Fatiha.

Allah does not love what is ugly, He loves what is beautiful. Open the door and say: Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. Say Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. May the doors be opened for you, may all be lovely. O Lord of Glory and Grandeur and Majesty! For the sake of Your Beloved, open them up for us as well, O Lord, let us affirm Your Unity. For the sake of the Beloved of the Lord adorn us with Your Good Pleasure, O Lord. al-Fatiha.

You are our Lord. You are our Absolute Lord and Master. We want to love You, to know You. Make us love Your Beloved (sallAllahu Alayhi wa aalihi wa sallam) who bears his load of ardent love. It is the love of Your Beloved (sallAllahu Alayhi wa aalihi wa sallam) that can open the gates leading to You. O Shah-i Mardan, do fill us with love and ardour. Seek the honour that the Lord of Glory will dress upon us. Open up. This blessed day of Jum‘a let us declare our tawhīd many times. Say: Lā ilāha illa-llāh over and over. That will lead you to the door.

Protect that beauty

O our Lord, our Subhan, our Sultan. You created us the way You wanted. Ay Yaran Shah Mardan. Listen to the holy words of Shah Mardan and you will become beautiful. You will become more beautiful and mighty. You will be dressed with more beauty from your Creator. O people, search for beauty. Don’t run after ugliness. These are a few words from Shah Mardan. Don’t run after ugliness. Run after beauty, because your Creator created you beautiful. In order to see that beauty, in order to dress you with that beauty, in order to make you carry the honor of that beauty, your Creator granted you this (beauty). He said – I want them to be My deputies. If there were millions of satans, they could not take away the beauty given to mankind. But the people of this time want to take away that beauty from each other. The One who gave (beauty) is the Creator. He gave that beauty to mankind. Try to protect that beauty.

Ay Yaran Shah Mardan. Run after beauty. Your Lord is the Most Beautiful of beautiful ones, our Lord. You dressed us with beauty. There is no power that can take that beauty away from us. Say “Subhan Allah” and be dressed with beauty. Say “wal hamdu lillah” and be dressed with beauty. Say “wa la ilaha illa Allahu wAllahu akbar” so you can be dressed with the dress of majesty and beauty. Be human, O mankind. Yaran, the lovers of Shah Mardan. Let’s cheer up and glorify our Lord. Let’s praise our Lord. He created us. He dressed us with such a dress of beauty that millions of satans can’t take that beauty away from us. Then let’s say – Bismillahi r- Rahmani r-Rahim.

~ Sultan ul-Awliya Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (Qs)

Observe your honourable service

Please go on O friend, Shah-i Mardan! Please come and listen to this, O beloved friends of Shahi Mardan! If you should lose the whole world, don’t despair! Don’t say, I have lost something. What you lost is the evil world. Janab Allah didn’t create you for this evil world, so why fall in despair? No, He created you for His service. For His service. If you lose this, it is the biggest loss. Serving our Lord, is the biggest honour. If we lose this, we have no value; we are bad! Please go on Shah-i Mardan, Your friends admire you.

Allahu Dhu l-Jalal, likes His servants to turn to Him. My servant turns to, and he says, “Allahu Akbar”. He salutes My Bayt Muazzama. This salutation is to Me. MashaAllah. As a response to this, wa li ‘abdin ma sa’al. Our Lord says, whatever My servant asks. “O those who ask for other than Me, they are heedless ones. They are not good.” Be in My Presence, be at My door! Ask from Me, O people! Your Lord Who created you, Who loves you, wants you to turn to Him. He wants you to turn towards His Bayt, and wants you to prostrate, to make sajda.

He wants your servanthood. Nothing else does He want. What a shame! “Ey, I wonder if – shall I buy this house, or shall I buy this estate if I carry on this work”. Don’t occupy yourself with any other business, don’t! We shouldn’t have any other business. We don’t have business other than servanthood to our Lord. May our hearts open up! Our Lord loves us. May we rejoice in His service. Please go on Shah-i Mardan. Your friends admire you. Satan is deceiving people with this evil world. It always deceives people with this evil world.

No! Observe your honourable service. The honour of man lies in service to Allahu Dhu l-Jalal, Who created him. Don’t strive for anything else! Don’t strive for anything else! “Salamun qawlan min Rabbin rahim” (36:58) Allah. Salams from our Lord. What shall we ask for? What else shall we ask for? “Salamun qawlan min Rabbin rahim”. Whose rahmat (blessings) is endless. His oceans of blessings have no limits, Allah Dhu l-Jalal is giving us salams! What do you want O ignorant people? Salamun qawlan min Rabbin rahim, His blessings are endless, unlimited. May there be salam (peace) upon you from Your Lord, salamun qawlan min Rabbin rahim.

What a great honour! Run after this! Then your problems will be gone, your pain and grief will be lifted. Go after the yaran, Ay yaran Shah-i Mardan. May you smile! May your hearts be refreshed with joy! May you be in light! May we be light! This is the advice from Shah-i Mardan. Ay yaran Shah-i Mardan! Your friends admire you! Be in the presence of our Mawla, Who will save us from this shameful world, Who will grant us the honourable life! Don’t look for anything else! Don’t run after eating and drinking! Don’t run after making girlfriends or boyfriends! May our ends be good!

The Sultanate of the sky

[This 1986 image of Halley’s comet was taken when it swung by Earth during its 76-year orbit. This week, bits of the famous comet will come falling into Earth’s atmosphere as shooting stars. Credit: NASA/ESA/Max-Planck-Institute for Solar System Research – October 15, 2013]

* * * * *

At night, a man looks up, doesn’t he? He looks at the sultanate of the sky. Allahu Akbar. Let us say Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. A man looks at the sultanate of the sky at night. He gets surprised. Looking at the spots of light of that sultanate, he gets amazed. He thinks “Where does this greatness come from?” Allahu Akbar. Go ahead ey Shah Mardan. May your words be a cure for your lovers. May we be relieved. Our day is a new day. O lovers, be relieved. May friends of Shah Mardan be relieved. May they not be oppressed, but relieved. May their hearts open, souls open. Go ahead ey Shah Mardan. Allahu Akbar. Allahu Akbar. During the night, a man observes the shining stars in the sky. O lovers, what do you look for in them? You wonder who is up there. In the depth of the darkness of the night, where do these shining spots of light come from? Where do they go? What do they bring?

Go ahead ey Shah Mardan. Let us look up at the sky. Those stars appearing in the sky show the greatness of the Divine Sultanate. MashaAllah la quwwata illa Billah. (No power except Allah) Our Allah, our Subhan, our Sultan. You created us so that we look and observe. May we dress in faith from Your Greatness. May we dress in relief. Go ahead ey Shah Mardan. Your lovers adore you. Who is not your lover is a four-footed animal. Don’t live for dunya. Don’t live for dunya. Strive to live for the Owner of Greatness of that Sultanate. Strive to live for the pleasure of the total Owner of the Sultanate of the sky. Be full of faith, of light and honor. Be loaded and full. They have everything you need. Ey Shah Mardan, go ahead.

May we understand. That is why we want Shah Mardan. Look for his assembly. Say, O Rabbi, our Subhan. Say, You’re the One who created us. Say, You are our Owner. These lights are Your lights. May we have from those lights, O Rabbi. Say it. Love your Creator. Love, love and respect. Go ahead ey Shah Mardan. May we not contract but may we expand. O man, O man, look for the Owner of Power who turns night into day, day into night. Go ahead ey Shah Mardan. We want strength. From the assembly of Shah Mardan, we want strength. But not the strength of an animal. We want drops from the Greatness of Sultan of the sky to come to us. One drop from the rivers of light in the sky makes a hundred thousand universes. You are Subhan our Creator. You are Sultan our Rabb (Lord). Go ahead ey Shah Mardan. May your words be a cure for people. MashaAllahu kana wa ma lam yasha’ lam yakun.

O man, go ahead ey Shah Mardan, Your Creator didn’t create you for death. Your Creator who gave you life didn’t give it to take it back. You are Subhan. You are Sultan. You don’t take back what You give. O lovers of Shah Mardan, let us say Bismillahi r-Rahman, Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. May the universe become a local trip for us. Search. Search. Yearn. The shining spots of stars in the universe – under whose command are they? Who do they take light from? Search for it. Your Creator didn’t create you to be a carrion crow. He, who created you, is the Great Sultan of the sky. The Sultanate of His Greatness – there is complete blackness and this indicates the sultanate of His Greatness. There is darkness. No one knows. Go ahead ey Shah Mardan. What do the spots shining and flying of those stars mean? Where do they come from? What do they want?

Let Shah Mardan say what they want. They want to celebrate the Divine Light. Ey Shah Mardan, your lovers adore you. Those stars are after the light of the Sultanate of the sky. Be a star. Go ahead ey Shah Mardan. A guide to the ways of being a star was sent by Allah Dhul-Jalal Janab-ul Wajib-ul Wujud. There is complete darkness which is a sign of the Greatness of the Divine Sultanate. No one knows that darkness, that color. What is in that darkness, no one knows. Shah Mardan has put you on the way so that you can know. Allahu Akbar. Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar wa Lillahi l-hamd. SubhanAllah. A man, in order to know that Sultanate, in order to look for that Sultanate, in order to find that Sultanate, in order to be in that Sultanate, a man must be inside the rivers of love. This is what those stars are looking for. Allahu Akbar. This is what the stars are looking for. May we join that Sultanate too. O Rabbi, our Subhan.

To love the Prophet (sallAllahu Alayhi wa aalihi wa sallam) – that is what faith is

For what do we live? Who lives for eating & drinking is an animal. Who lives for servanthood becomes Sultan. O our Lord! May You fill us with Your love & longing. Who is the centre of the love & longing? Who is in the centre? Rasul-i Kibriya (sallAllahu Alayhi wa aalihi wa sallam). The Prophet of the End of Times (sallAllahu Alayhi wa aalihi wa sallam) is filled with love & longing. To love him, to love the Prophet (sas) – that is what faith is. What a beautiful Prophet is that Prophet (sallAllahu Alayhi wa aalihi wa sallam). You wouldn’t be able to look at his face for long; it was not possible to look. Such a beauty & magnificence is granted to the Prophet of the End of Times. He didn’t appear that way to the people. If he did, all people would collapse, fall down in sajda and say “This is our Lord”. He didn’t appear like this. Subhan Allah. Sultan Allah. How ignorant the people of this time have become. They ran far from the realities. They are not seeking them. They have fallen to fighting. Go ahead O Shahi Mardan. Your yaran admire you. Who does not admire is an animal. O yaran of Shahi Mardan, how beautiful is your speech.

That Prophet (sallAllahu Alayhi wa aalihi wa sallam) is the only Prophet who represents Allah Almighty – he is who is the Khaliph of Allah Almighty. Our glorification is to him, (through him) it reaches our Lord. Glorify the Prophet of the End of Times (sallAllahu Alayhi wa aalihi wa sallam), that glorification reaches Allah Almighty. Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar. Don’t fight, O people! The people of the End of Times have fallen to fighting. Why do you fight? What is the fight for? What did Pharaoh say to Prophet Moses? “Ya Musa, ‘In Turidu ‘Illa ‘An Takuna Jabbaran Fi l-‘Ardi” (28:19). “Do you want to be a tyrant on earth?” Is that what you claim? No. It was him (Pharaoh) who wanted to be jabbar/ the tyrant. Being Al-Jabbar, The Mighty, belongs to Allahu Dhu-l Jalal. Prophet Moses is a servant, so was Pharaoh. But Pharaoh did not admit his servanthood and he vanished. Allahu Allah, Allahu Allah.
