Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim Al-Haqqani An-Naqshibandi, Sohbat of 8th of July, 1988.
…ta’wila al-wasila, an explanation of wasila – mediary. He said this, because he could not comprehend the wisdom of this holy verse, saying, We’ll look after you. A word then came from Allah Almighty: Nobody can reach to this station without a mediary Whoever wishes to regard Us, who wishes to behold Our beauty, he should adopt a mediary to achieve this station. We have made so-and-so to be the qutub as a means to this goal. Meaning, he holds the key, he is the wasila / mediary. We have designated him to help you reach to Us, to bring you to the station where you can behold Us. If you do not find him, you will wait there for all eternity, for that station will not open to you without a mediary.
Yes, the Prophet Musa fell down and rose again. Why did the Prophet Musa go in search of al-Khidr, ‘alayhi s-salam? Was it only for the sake of adornment – To increase his knowledge? What was his intention in seeking to increase his knowledge? He, who was master of a shari’a / law, a prophet of great rank and standing, what could he have hoped to gain from the Prophet Khidr? What was his real purpose in seeking him out? Would he have sought the Prophet Khidr without purpose? The intention of seeking such a person who has been granted ‘ilmu laduni, knowledge directly imparted by Allah, that is actually the truth that was planted in his heart at the time when Allah Almighty spoke to him and said: you will not be able to behold Me, and when he fell down and rose up again. You can never look at Us directly. Without there being a mediary and a means / wasila you cannot ever reach that station. Therefore the Prophet Musa set out so urgently to find the one being in that age who had been granted knowledge from that source, who was prepared to be the guide, the means to this station.
The knowledge of ‘ilmu laduni which he possessed did not accord with the outward shari’a that the Prophet Musa had been given. It agreed with its inner truth, but not with its outward aspect. For there is truth in the shari’a, and of course the ‘ilmu laduni cannot be separated from the truth of the shari’a. So when al-Khidr destroyed the boat, and Musa chided him for that, it was the outward shari’a of Musa that voiced objection. As for the Truth, the inner aspect of the shari’a, when the Prophet al-Khidr, explained why he had done this, the truth of the shari’a approved and said Yes, you are right.
However, in our outward aspect we cannot accept this. But according to our inner truth your action agrees with us; so the outer aspect of the shari’a confirmed the actions of the Prophet al-Khidr, it is all right, it said. For that reason he made him undergo a threefold trial. And he saw that the Prophet Musa was not able to surpass the outward knowledge he had been given. The Prophet al-Khidr offered him three bridges. Three bridges he offered him, so that he might pass into the region of Truth. If you can’t go on this, take that one; if this won’t do, go on that one.
Cross on all three, if you like. This was enough for Musa, ‘alayhi s-salam. That is why the Prophet al-Khidr finally said there is no need for me to remain with you. You will not admit any more crossings than these, so cross over at those three crossings that you have made.
So he [Musa] was given permission. It was for this wasila that the Prophet Musa sought him out. Together with his slave boy, or his friend or his servant…

O yaran, Shahi Mardan! Sahibu-l Ihsan! O Shahi Mardan. Let us ask from Allah Almighty- our Yaran- He may grant all things. Let us ask. There is everything with Him, there is everything. Let us not get tired of asking, O yaran Shahi Mardan. You are Subhan O our Lord, You are Sultan O our Lord. Let us beg from Allah Almighty. Let us not get tired of, not get fed up with asking, let us keep asking. We ask, then Allah Almighty grants. “The servant asks and I grant. Take it” He says. “Take, O My servant. Since you are asking, take it. My treasures do not ever finish, My doors do not ever close that you should not ask for it! My granting doors are open. Ask! Ask from the Heavens!” Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar wa Lillahi l-Hamd. Ask and take O yaran Shahi Mardan. Our Lord, there is no end to Your grants. May You grant us, O our Lord.
O yaran Shahi Mardan. How beautiful are You. How plenty is Your Ihsan. The doors of Heavens are in Your Hand- they are in Your Hand, You may open them. Plead for it. “Fas’al bihi khabira”. “Ask from Your Lord” it says. “Whatever you want, ask from Him. He is Allah- He is our Lord Who is Jalla Jalaluhu, Amma Nawaluhu wa La Ilaha Ghayruhu. Open! Open Your Doors!”. “Fas’al bihi khabira”. “Ask from Allah Almighty” it says. Let us ask. Fas’al bihi khabira. “Ask from Me” it says. How beautiful it is to ask from You, O Lord. How nice it is. How nice it is to take from You the things we speak of, O yaran Shahi Mardan. Your grants are endless. May You bestow upon us also from Your grants. May You grant us from Your endless grants also, O Lord. Allahu Allah Allahu Rabbi ma li siwahu. Illa Hu. (We want only You) May our hearts open. May our hearts find joy. Our Lord- our Subhan, our Sultan. How beautiful are Your grants. How beautiful are they, Ya Rabbana. You don’t get enough of granting. Your grants do not finish with granting, O our Lord. You are Subhan, You are Sultan. You are Subhan, You are Sultan. Allah Jalla Jalaluhu is the Absolute Owner of the never-ending, never finishing treasures. Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar wa Lillahi l-Hamd. Fatiha.
The never-ending, never finishing treasures belong to You, O Lord. May You grant us power, may You grant us uns/familiarity. May You grant us from the never-ending treasures of Your Divine Bounty, O Lord. Let us plead, let us ask. Our Lord is Al-Qadir and Al-Muqtadir/the All-Capable of everything. Ask! Let us ask. Ask from Allah Almighty. Ask and your Lord grants. The servant asks and our Lord grants. He is not stingy – Our Lord is not stingy. There is no limit to His grants, to His blessings. If you recite one Bismillah, He may grant you the whole jehan/universe – the virtue of the Bismillah. Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar wa Lillahi l-Hamd.
Let us ask. O yaran Shahi Mardan. Let us not get tired of, not get fed up with asking. Our Lord may grant anything. And we should ask for it. Fatiha.
This is a short sohbat. Ask, ask from your Lord. He is the Owner of measureless bounty. There is no end to His bounty, it has no boundaries. He is Allah! For the honour of Your Habib-i Kibriya (sallAllahu alayhi wasalam) we ask from Your Divine Bounty, from Your never-ending Bounty Ya Rabbi. We wait for it, O our Lord. Men & Jinn expect from Him. Allahu Allah. Men & Jinn expect from Him. Earths & Heavens wait for His grants. They all ask from Him. Let us ask & take, from His never-ending treasures.
Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim Al-Haqqani An-Naqshibandi (Qs), Sohbat of the 2nd of November, 2013.
Allah Almighty, for the sake of Shah-i Mardan let the roses bloom, and the nightingales sing. May our heart be gladdened. Come to us, O Shah-i Mardan. We wish for beauty. May Allah relieve us of what is tiresome to us. O Shah-i Mardan, you are in possession of all beauty. Let our hearts be joyful. Ask for joy, try to find gladness. Welcome to you, O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan. Allah, You are Subhan, You are Sultan. In You lies all Beauty. Welcome to you, you have come with gladness. O our Lord, let us be joyful and glad. Our Lord, let us find gladness with our Lord. Let us be joyful. O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan. O cheerfulness of your beloved friends, O lovely assembly of those who love you and of those who are beloved. Come, O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan. Let us ask and aspire to the lovely assemblies that are never boring or annoying, that make us cheerful and happy. Let us not have a life full of struggles. Let ours be a life that is happy and cheerful.
O our Lord, our Subhān, our Sultān, may our hearts open up. May our hearts be happy and beloved. Come to us, O Lovers, O beloved friends, Lovers of Shah-i Mardan. Let us ask for, let us ask for beautiful things, let us ask to be in places that bring happiness and contentment. Let us be happy and contented. Let us fill up with light. Ask, and you will be given. O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan, let us be among the servants of Allah who do not grow weary, who do not get fed up or bored. mā shā’ Allāhu kān, wa mā lam yashā’ lam yakūn. mā shā’ Allāhu kān. Whatever Allah decrees comes to be, Doctor. Let our hearts open up, let us seek the happiness of which we don’t grow tired, and beauty which does not satiate, and ardent love that causes no surfeit. Let us not grow tired, do not weary of it! Perhaps our love will increase, and our physical being will fill with love. The greatest virtue is to be filled with Divine Love. May Allah grant us love and teach us and give us of His joyfulness.
You ask for happiness, Allah Almighty grants it to you, He gives you joy. O our Lord, grace us with happiness. Let us not fall into darkness. O beloved friends, through ardent love let us be filled with wonder and eager in our striving. Let us persevere in our efforts. People who are other than that are worthless. Therefore you must know what it is that you desire. Let us be filled with Divine Love, with Divine Fervour. Ask for love, he says. Seek love and ardour. Don’t stay in darkness, that is forbidden. Don’t stay in darkness, he says, come into the light. Come into the light, don’t remain in darkness. A life spent in darkness, what meaning has it got? Its meaning is nil, zero, it is darkness. Come out of the darkness, and run towards the light. O our Lord, our Subhān, our Sultān, don’t leave us in darkness, O Lord. Let us come into the light of ardent love.
O our Lord, grant to us paradise gardens where roses and nightingales sing for us. Grant us beauty and happiness. May our heart be cheered, may our heart be the Sultan. Let us search for beauty, beauty is what leads to love and ardour. Search for love and ardour, he says. O our Lord, You are Subhān, You are Sultān. You are Sultān. You are the One who grants ardent love, O Lord. We ask for love. I seek ardent love and beauty. In Your Presence I find everything. Come, O Shah-i Mardan, your Lovers are in awe of you. Ask for love and ardour that never fills you up. May Allah grant us such love and ardour as will never fill us. A heart not possessing this, is a dried up thing, bone-dry. There is no use in what is dried up. We are asking for the joy of love, the love which is granted to the believing servants of the Lord. We ask for love and ardour.
O our Lord, You are Subhān, You are Sultān. You are Subhān, You are Sultān. O man, run towards Him! Run towards your Lord, let us run towards our Lord. O our Lord, O Beauty of Beauties, that is our God. Whom are you looking for? Whom do you seek? What is it you are looking for? Love and ardour. Ask for Divine Love and Affection. Whoever looks for that will be revived with ardent love, he will come alive. A person without love or ardour is not even human. He is like a dry stick of wood, a dead stump. No. Be vibrant, be alive. How lovely it is to be alive, how lovely that is! What is it that gives us life? It is love and ardour. Ask for love, and act accordingly. With love you will come to know the meaning of life. You will be surrounded and engulfed by beauty. Swimming among the beauties of your Lord. Let us move among them, let us ask for that.
O our Lord, our Subhān, don’t drive us from Your gate! Therefore let us say: Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. Say this; it is what opens the door to all that is beautiful, it opens the door to all beauty for the Lovers. Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. What opens all doors, the doors to all beauty, is Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. O Allah, don’t let us be like dry sticks of wood, O Lord. Fill us with love and ardour, O my Lord. Allah, our God, our Subhān, our Sultān. Grant us also from Your Love. Therefore you must say, O you Lovers, O you beloved ones – Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. A person without love is as a dry stick of wood. Love – what inspires people, what lets them feel the freshness of love and enthusiasm, is ardent love. O our Lord, may our hearts and minds be stirred and inspired. Let us say: Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. How lovely it is to say: Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. This is the service that wakes people up, and gives them love and enthusiasm and firm determination – to say Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. That is what we want, O my Lord.
We want some of Your fervent Love and Your Affection, O Lord. Don’t be a dry stick of wood. No. Be alive! Don’t be a lifeless stick. Be a fresh and lively twig. O Lord, grant us some love and ardour that will wake us and inspire us. Let us wake up. Let us taste the taste of love and ardour. Let us know what we are living for. Allāhu Allāh, Allāau Rabbī, mā lī siwāhu illa Hū. O our Lord, Your Lovers stand in awe of You. Your Lovers, Your beloved friends are in awe of You. You are in the midst of that feeling of awe. A person who has no sense of awe is totally dry and useless. Let us open up, O our Lord. May our hearts and inward feelings open up. Let us come to life, O our Lord, through Your Love. Let us not remain as dry sticks. Let us be filled with love and ardour, O our Lord. Amīn, O Lord, Amīn, O Lord. O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan, ask of that Divine Love, seek the ardour of love.
Let us try to serve according to our means and station. This is what is addressed to us, O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan. Come to us, O Shah-i Mardan. Whoever asks for Divine Love, whoever wishes Divine Ardour, let him come to the Divine Table, to the Divine Table laid out for us. May he find welcome there. Don’t sit there doing nothing. Come and take your place at the Divine Table of Love and Ardour, he says. How lovely. Come, O beloved friends of Shah-i Mardan. come together and step forth. Don’t remain dry as sticks, but fill yourselves with love and longing, because it is being given. It is the gift of Allah Almighty, His present, this Love and Ardour. Ask Him for that.
O you who are in love, O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan, don’t sleep, wake up! Or ask and say: O my Lord, wake us up! The sweetest thing for man is love. It is love and affection. Ask for love, so that you might enjoy the taste of life in this world and in the hereafter. Don’t be a dry stick. Fill up with love and fervour. O our Lord, grant this to us. Let us be among those who are in love with You. Let us load up with love. What did you load while in this world? Say, I loaded up on love. O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan, load us up with love. When you loaded up with love, what was it that you loaded? Faith and favour, ardent love and joyfulness – that you must seek. It will be given. It will not be withheld, it will be given. Since it is given, you must ask for it and take. Look for nothing else. Look for this ardent love so it may restore you to life.
O our Lord, our Subhān, our Sultān. O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan. O, search for the assembly of love and fervour frequented by those who love Allah, of the Lovers who adorn the assemblies of the blessed saints. O Allah, make it easy for us to stick to Your lovely way. O our Lord, allow us to walk in the way of those who are in love with You, O Lord. Leave us not as dried up sticks. Let us ask, let us ask Allah Almighty for love and ardour, let us be inspired. Let them inspire us with love and enthusiasm. O our Lord, there is none who turns away from Your door empty-handed. It is laden with faith and with Islam. They load them up with love and fervour. What is the load being loaded? It is love and fervour. What is his load? It is dung, manure. What is this going on here? Manure, he says. Eh, that is this guy’s load, that is his burden. What has he collected? He has collected manure, dung. Is he a man, that guy, is that a man? Can one who collects dung be called a man? Collect instead love and fervour.
Allah, You are beautiful and You have created Your Beloved (sallAllahu alayhi wassalam) to be beautiful. You have laden him with ardent love. May we be given even the slightest speck of that. O Shah-i Mardan, teach us. Let us enter, so we may see this ardent love. Let us experience its taste. A person unable to taste love and ardour is a dry piece of wood. He is a dry stick. A loveless person is a dry piece of wood. Burden yourself with love, burden yourself with the love of your Lord. O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan, the beloved friends are calling: O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan! O Allah, no one is greater than You. O our Lord, no one is more lovely than You. O our Lord, there is no one who has more gifts to give than You. O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan, Let us say Allah, let us ask of Him, He has everything. Who does not know to say Allah is deprived of everything. Seek Allah, and you will have found everything. If you do not seek Him, you will remain in a pile of dung – na‘ūdhu bi-llāh/ we seek refuge with Allah.
What beauty Allah Almighty has created! Know this and seek it. Say: O our Lord. Say: O our Lord and Master who has created all Beauty, You are what man desires. You who are the Absolute Master of all Beauty, it is You, O our Lord. Do not leave us among the deprived, O our Lord. Let us be such people who can be of use; that are given a share. Those who get nothing are the luckless ones. Love and respect. Savour the taste. Find flavour. Know the honour of servitude to Allah, know it, find it and search for it. Look for it. O our Lord, may our love unfold. Let your hearts open up, may our hearts open up. O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan, ask for this. Ask for it, so you will find it. Who doesn’t ask for it will not find it. That is our hope: that it may unfold for us as well. Let us be cheerful. Let us be among those who are alive. Let us not be among those who are dead.
O our Lord, You are Subhān, You are Sultān. Let us chase after Your Beauty. Let us run with the people who love You, O Lord. Yearning love, intense respect is for the beloved ones of the Lovers. O beloved friends, seek beauty. O beloved friends, seek love. Let us be filled with ardent love. For the sake of the Beloved(sallAllahu alayhi wassalam) of the Lord, and for the sake of al-Fātiha. Allāhu Allāh, Allāhu Rabbī, mā lī siwāhu illa Hū.
Marhaba. Welcome to you, O beloved friends. How lovely that you have come. What a lovely meal you have come to attend. Expand, you will unfold. Allāhu Allāh, Allāhu Rabbī, mā lī siwāhu illa Hū. Do not remain in darkness. Come into the light. Come to the seas of ardent love, plunge into them and be immersed. Don’t stay in darkness. Fervent love provides light. Whoever has no fervent love, will remain in darkness. May Allah grant us light. May He deliver us from darkness. O our Lord, Our Subhān, our Sultān. All of you, in shā’ Allāh, will become Sultān. Our Lord who has all Power and empowers all will grant this. Since He will give you, ask and take from Him. Seek precious stones, seek jewels.
Allāh, Allāh. Allāh Allāh, Subhān Allāh. Let us fill up with love and ardour, let ardent love fill us. Let us go hunting for bargains in that market. Let us shop for beauty, and not for rubbish.
O our Lord, our Subhan, our Sultan. You created us the way You wanted. Ay Yaran Shah Mardan. Listen to the holy words of Shah Mardan and you will become beautiful. You will become more beautiful and mighty. You will be dressed with more beauty from your Creator. O people, search for beauty. Don’t run after ugliness. These are a few words from Shah Mardan. Don’t run after ugliness. Run after beauty, because your Creator created you beautiful. In order to see that beauty, in order to dress you with that beauty, in order to make you carry the honor of that beauty, your Creator granted you this (beauty). He said – I want them to be My deputies. If there were millions of satans, they could not take away the beauty given to mankind. But the people of this time want to take away that beauty from each other. The One who gave (beauty) is the Creator. He gave that beauty to mankind. Try to protect that beauty.
Ay Yaran Shah Mardan. Run after beauty. Your Lord is the Most Beautiful of beautiful ones, our Lord. You dressed us with beauty. There is no power that can take that beauty away from us. Say “Subhan Allah” and be dressed with beauty. Say “wal hamdu lillah” and be dressed with beauty. Say “wa la ilaha illa Allahu wAllahu akbar” so you can be dressed with the dress of majesty and beauty. Be human, O mankind. Yaran, the lovers of Shah Mardan. Let’s cheer up and glorify our Lord. Let’s praise our Lord. He created us. He dressed us with such a dress of beauty that millions of satans can’t take that beauty away from us. Then let’s say – Bismillahi r- Rahmani r-Rahim.
Please go on O friend, Shah-i Mardan! Please come and listen to this, O beloved friends of Shahi Mardan! If you should lose the whole world, don’t despair! Don’t say, I have lost something. What you lost is the evil world. Janab Allah didn’t create you for this evil world, so why fall in despair? No, He created you for His service. For His service. If you lose this, it is the biggest loss. Serving our Lord, is the biggest honour. If we lose this, we have no value; we are bad! Please go on Shah-i Mardan, Your friends admire you.
Allahu Dhu l-Jalal, likes His servants to turn to Him. My servant turns to, and he says, “Allahu Akbar”. He salutes My Bayt Muazzama. This salutation is to Me. MashaAllah. As a response to this, wa li ‘abdin ma sa’al. Our Lord says, whatever My servant asks. “O those who ask for other than Me, they are heedless ones. They are not good.” Be in My Presence, be at My door! Ask from Me, O people! Your Lord Who created you, Who loves you, wants you to turn to Him. He wants you to turn towards His Bayt, and wants you to prostrate, to make sajda.
He wants your servanthood. Nothing else does He want. What a shame! “Ey, I wonder if – shall I buy this house, or shall I buy this estate if I carry on this work”. Don’t occupy yourself with any other business, don’t! We shouldn’t have any other business. We don’t have business other than servanthood to our Lord. May our hearts open up! Our Lord loves us. May we rejoice in His service. Please go on Shah-i Mardan. Your friends admire you. Satan is deceiving people with this evil world. It always deceives people with this evil world.
No! Observe your honourable service. The honour of man lies in service to Allahu Dhu l-Jalal, Who created him. Don’t strive for anything else! Don’t strive for anything else! “Salamun qawlan min Rabbin rahim” (36:58) Allah. Salams from our Lord. What shall we ask for? What else shall we ask for? “Salamun qawlan min Rabbin rahim”. Whose rahmat (blessings) is endless. His oceans of blessings have no limits, Allah Dhu l-Jalal is giving us salams! What do you want O ignorant people? Salamun qawlan min Rabbin rahim, His blessings are endless, unlimited. May there be salam (peace) upon you from Your Lord, salamun qawlan min Rabbin rahim.
What a great honour! Run after this! Then your problems will be gone, your pain and grief will be lifted. Go after the yaran, Ay yaran Shah-i Mardan. May you smile! May your hearts be refreshed with joy! May you be in light! May we be light! This is the advice from Shah-i Mardan. Ay yaran Shah-i Mardan! Your friends admire you! Be in the presence of our Mawla, Who will save us from this shameful world, Who will grant us the honourable life! Don’t look for anything else! Don’t run after eating and drinking! Don’t run after making girlfriends or boyfriends! May our ends be good!
~ Sultan ul-Awliya Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim Al-Haqqani An-Naqshibandi (Qs)
Faith gives you honour. Faith gives you light. Faith gives you strength.
Where does it all come from? From Rabbu l-Izzat. The esteem and honour Allah gave to His Prophets, will come to us also. Ya. Allah Allah. “Innahu min Sulaymana wa innahu Bismillahi rRahmani r-Rahim” (27:30). Being the queen of seven huge countries, Balqis searched for honour. She considered herself honourable. But seeing the holy letter (from Prophet Sulayman) her honour fell to zero. Abandoning everything she ran to Prophet Sulayman. She said, “neither do I want my gold, nor my throne, nor my property. I want you, O Sulayman. Your blessed letter has come. Your honourable letter has come. “I want that honour.” She, a Sultan of seven countries, sought honour by the arrival of a letter.
She became a slave to those words. “Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim” had given her honour. She said, “the honour I had wasn’t real. “My throne is golden. Jinn around me, under my command.” She said, “these things have no value. I surrender to the Lord of Prophet Sulayman. I offer my servanthood, I cast aside everything.” O people! Don’t be satan’s clowns! That queen, Balqis, “for those words I sacrifice my estate,” she said. “Prophet Sulayman profited me by those honourable words. He sent me the Basmala. Honour is in this, not in my golden throne or my golden crown. Honour is with Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim”.
She was told to say “Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim,” she said. She gained honour, here and Hereafter. Masha’Allah, the Queen of Sheba. She said, “This property of mine has no value at all. What is of value was not with me. What is of value is with Prophet Sulayman.” She obeyed him. O people! You say it also! Say, Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. Make sajda. You will be granted every goodness. You will have no fear, here or Hereafter. Wa min Allah at-tawfiq.
